Samavaya is a Sanskrit word that refers to the concept of inseparable relationship. It describes how qualities and substances are mutually dependent and intrinsically linked and highlights the unique connection between two entities that cannot exist without the other and are defined by the other.

With regards to psychology, Samavaya evokes the relationship between internal and external; reflection and action; learning and expertise; tradition and innovation; and theory and practice.

Orienting to interdependence in many forms invites exploration, integration, and articulation, which in turn, provides a foundation for transformative and robust clinical service and education.

Samavaya Psychology’s interdisciplinary educational programs support developing a rigorous relationship between clinical and critical social theory, ancestral and empirical evidence, and practice with nuanced attention to the impact of power dynamics and social structures on mental health.

We believe clinical knowledge is formed in relationship to theory, practice, and social structures.

We support clinicians in understanding themselves as clinical observers, hypothesis testers, and theory developers.

We invite you to share with us your ideas, desires, and needs- as teachers and learners.

At Samavaya, we value co-learning and community-driven content. Many of us have incredible knowledge bases but do not have ready access to academic and professional spaces to share this knowledge. Samavaya aims to help us come together and amplify our innovative theoretical and clinical work while also ensuring that programming is compliant with continuing education requirements. This allows us to redirect financial resources into programming we design for ourselves and offer to our colleagues and comrades.

Colleagues are encouraged to both teach and learn in this space.

We offer administrative and didactic support to those wishing to develop programs according to level of need.

We also offer CE certification to partner organizations’ programs. Contact us to learn more.

Samavaya Psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and other mental health professionals, as per licensing board rules. Samavaya Psychology maintains responsibility for all programs and their content.
